Online Teaching Support

To support one of the provost’s initiatives on teaching effective courses in online modalities, the CTL is offering two different opportunities as part of an Online Teaching Enhancement Program.

Option 1: If you are a faculty member who has taught a full course online previously (synchronous or asynchronous – note: this is not the emergency remote teaching we all have engaged in with Helene and the Pandemic), and you intend to teach that course again:

We offer a supported, self-directed pathway to course enhancement that includes reviewing the course with a self-auditing rubric to identify areas to update/adjust, feedback from a peer mentor, access to a curated list of resources to give strategies, and a reflective follow-up on what you found useful to adjust from feedback on your moodle page. Estimated time: 4-5 hours. Stipend for completed pathway: $200. Express your interest in Option 1 using this google form.

Option 2: If you are a faculty member who would like to restructure a particular course from face-to-face (F2F) to an online modality, and do not have previous training in online teaching equivalent to a 2-4 week course:

We can accept a limited number of applications each semester (3-4) to support taking an online teaching course from Quality Matters, along with completing the peer mentor support and moodle page feedback from Option 1. Estimated time: 20-30 hours. Stipend for completion of QM, self-audit, peer mentor feedback, and completed development of course and review of moodle page: $500 + QM course costs covered. Express your interest in Option 2 using this google form.

In alignment with educational development ethical guidelines for CTLs, these opportunities are confidential and voluntary. Any requirements related to training or evaluative certifications would be managed through other appropriate mechanisms such as a faculty committee, chairs, deans, or the provost. If a mandate is issued, CTL programming could be one way for you to be prepared to demonstrate your skillfulness in this modality.
